Malabo (Bioko island) hosts most government ministries and local headquarters of international organisations. Crime rates are moderately low, though on the rise, and social and political unrest is limited. The main risk is from petty crime and can be mitigated by adopting standard precautions.
Malabo is a small city situated in the north of Bioko Island. Most official buildings, such as the presidential palace, and upmarket hotels are located in the city centre, between Avenida de la Independencia and the Calle del Rey Malabo.
