Location: Greece
Category: Storm, Transport disruption
Exercise caution and expect weather-related disruption on 12 June. The Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS) has issued orange warnings (second-highest on a four-tier scale, meaning ‘be prepared’) for thunderstorms in Central Greece, Central Macedonia, Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Epirus, Thessaly and Western Macedonia regions. Yellow warnings (second-lowest) are also in place for several surrounding regions. Adverse weather is liable to cause short-notice disruption to transport and essential services in affected areas.
Advice
- Monitor the HNMS website for up-to-date weather forecasts and related warnings. Maintain flexible itineraries and reconfirm the status of routes prior to setting out.
- Heavy rain may trigger flash floods and landslides, particularly in low-lying areas. Be alert to debris on the road, such as fallen trees, branches or other items. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. If you come across one, seek an alternative route instead.
- We do not hold specific information on transport schedules. Contact the relevant service provider for more details. In case of cancellations or delays, your travel agent will be able to assist with alternative arrangements.
- Disruption to essential services, such as electricity, is possible. Ensure that all communication devices are charged and, if possible, keep spare batteries for backup.
